Big Goodbyes, Big Haircuts, and the Giant Dumpster
Monday Funday?
Deliveries, work, meetings, nails, meetings, work. That’s Monday.
The Tuesday Grind (and Mom to the Rescue)
Tuesday was a whole other beast. I prepped all. day. long. But! I did manage to sneak away for a quick lunch break with my mom. You know those lunches where you’re so tired you can barely hold your fork but you’re just happy to be sitting in a chair that isn't a kitchen stool? Yeah, that was us. Then it was back to the shop to finish up and head to Lowell High for a grazing table. I did in fact get caught in a downpour and lost my car in the garage for a hot second.
But the biggest highlight of the week? My little guy, Georgie. His teacher actually took him to get his haircut (I know, I’m the luckiest mom alive to have that kind of support system) and he came back looking like a whole different human. He kept puffing his chest out and telling everyone how “brave” he was for sitting in the chair. Like, boyyy, my heart actually exploded. But also? Where did my baby go?? He looks like such a big boy now with his fresh trim and his little attitude. I’m not crying, you’re crying. (Actually, I am definitely crying, it’s fine).
The Great Couch Exorcism
So, let’s talk about the house chaos. The dumpster finally arrived. You guys have no idea how much I have been anticipating this blue metal box of joy. We finally tossed the biggest couch known to man. I’m convinced that couch was built out of lead and bad memories because it was so heavy I think it actually altered the gravitational pull of our living room.
Wednesday was a half-day with George, which usually means "trying to work while a toddler uses your leg as a climbing wall." I eventually shipped him off to Nana’s for the rest of the afternoon so I could actually, you know, function as a business owner. Also, I was currently dog sitting for my mom up until tonight. She just got back from Bermuda (lucky lady!) but she was already off again to a wedding for our cousins in Ohio. She is a busy lady and I am just here trying to manage the dogs and the cheese and the constant feeling that I’ve forgotten something important. (I probably have).
Big Changes at the Shop (The Abigail Era Ends)
Okay, I need to get emotional for a second. We had to say goodbye to our amazing Abigail this weekend. She’s venturing off into the "world of paperwork" and other mysterious things people do in offices. Honestly? I have literally no idea what happens in an office. I had an office job for exactly two seconds once and I immediately clocked out permanently. I think it involves spreadsheets and fluorescent lighting? No thanks.
But for real, Abigail has been such a rock. I’ve told her no tears allowed near the food because the Board of Health would definitely write me up for "unauthorized salt-water seasoning." (Joking, mostly). Since she’s leaving, you’re going to be seeing a lot more of me (and my double tooth gems, get ready for the sparkle) starting in June. I’ll be holding down the fort Thursday-Saturday until I find a new cheese pal who can handle the chaos.
Also, Thursday afternoon I got invited to a foodie photoshoot, which felt very cool and also deeply awkward in that specific way where you become hyper-aware of your own hands and suddenly forget how to sit like a normal person. They had me doing shots of my hands holding cocktails and then, yes, gently forking my steak, which sounds vaguely unhinged out of context but actually looked super fun and fancy. I was basically trying sooo hard not to be awkward that I probably looked even more awkward, but honestly? I ended up having a really good time. The food was incredible, the company was fun, and once I stopped overthinking where my elbows were, I actually enjoyed myself. Growth!!! Tiny, weird, cocktail-holding growth!!! I should be a hand model. Ya’ll should see my feet too. Wrong platform. IYKYK.
NYC State of Mind (And Blackout Dates!)
This coming week I’m heading to NYC and the itinerary is... a lot. HyRox. People who like burpees. Stuff like that. But there’s also pizza. And hot dogs. And rats (it’s NYC, they’re basically the local wildlife). I’m also super excited for SailGP and there is nothing like watching those crazy fast boats on the Hudson.
I’m still working out the kinks in my schedule because it’s a bit of a jigsaw puzzle right now. I’ve got a book signing event Sunday, a couple of showers (the bridal kind, not the soap kind, though I could probably use both), plus regular orders. It’s a lot. The shop will not be open this weekend!
Because I’m going to be flying solo for a bit while I look for a new team member, I have some **blackout dates** you guys need to know about. I’ll post a proper list later, but basically:
This coming weekend I’ll be closed because I’ll be in NYC.
- First weekend in June? **Bye.**
- Last weekend in June? **Also bye.**
- First weekend in July? **See ya never.**
Meal prep is a different story. I’ll figure that out later.
I know, I know. It’s a lot of "bye" but a girl’s gotta sleep (or at least sit in a dark room and not think about cheddar for five minutes).
Anyway, I’m rambling. It’s been a week. A hot, heavy-couch-moving, toddler-haircut-having, cheese-prepping week. Thank you guys for being on this wild ride with me. It’s messy and loud and sometimes smells like old screen doors and expensive prosciutto, but I wouldn't have it any other way.
See you in June!
XX,
Abby
Song of the Day: Flume-Like Water featuring MNDR
This song has a great, driving beat that manages to feel both high energy and weirdly calming- kind of like the perfect playlist for finally getting everything packed into the Subaru and moved into the new house. Also Flume is awesome. BYE.
The gentle forking I was talking about. She took a much better photo than I did here obviously.
Lowell SNAX
Always a dirty Hendricks w bleu cheese olives and a sidecar.
NYC set. Yea, I got a glitter glizzy nail and an alien for MIB. Throwback movie.
